On 5th June 2026, I had the opportunity to attend the Girls First Summit held at Iconic Plaza in Nairobi. I attended the summit as a representative of my school, Korogocho Glory Primary School and a member of the Children Led Community Peace Labs (CLCP Labs) by Re-Imagining New Communities which works learners from our school. The summit brought together many girls from different schools and communities, creating an excellent platform for learning, networking and sharing experiences.
The day began with a networking session where participants introduced themselves and got to know one another. This session helped us build friendships and learn about the different backgrounds and experiences of fellow participants.
Later, we were divided into groups to discuss issues affecting girls. The main topics covered during the summit were menstrual health and the consequences of early marriage. These discussions were informative and helped us understand the challenges faced by girls and the importance of making informed decisions about our health and future.
The summit provided valuable knowledge on menstrual health, including proper hygiene practices and the importance of access to menstrual health products. We also learned about the negative effects of early marriage on girls’ education, health, and personal development. The facilitators encouraged us to become advocates for girls’ rights and well-being within our communities.
The event was held in a beautiful and well-organized venue at Iconic Plaza. The environment was welcoming and conducive to learning. Participants were served a delicious lunch, which contributed to the enjoyable experience throughout the day.
The Girls First Summit was a memorable and enriching one-day experience. It provided an opportunity to interact with other girls, gain important knowledge on girls’ health, and discuss issues affecting young women. At the end of the summit, participants were awarded certificates in recognition of their participation and learning experience. I am grateful for the opportunity to represent my school and CLCP Labs at this important event.
